Help with Kalpa
Kalpa calculates your local panchang on your iPhone or iPad. If your question isn't answered here, email support@kalpapanchang.com.
Getting started
Choose a city on first launch: pick one of the suggested cities, which work offline, search for another, or tap Use current location. To change it later, tap the place name at the top of Today or Calendar, or go to Profile. Profile → Getting started has a short guide.
Reading Today
Today follows the live local time. Before sunrise it still shows the previous panchang day, because the panchang day runs from sunrise to sunrise. Up next shows the nearest transition. Tap Full Panchang & Muhūrtas for every transition and kālam; the information button beside each section explains it. Share day sends the city, date, time zone and times.
Other dates
Swipe the week strip, tap the date to choose any day, or use the Calendar tab. Browsed dates show their values at sunrise; tap Today to return to the live clock. Kalpa covers January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2050.
Widgets
Touch and hold your Home Screen, open the widget gallery, search for Kalpa and choose Daily Panchang (small or medium). You can also add it while customizing your Lock Screen. Widgets follow the real day in your saved city. Open Kalpa at least every two days so they can renew their calculations; if a widget says to open Kalpa, do so once. iOS decides exactly when widgets update.
Daily reminder
In Profile → Daily reminder, choose a time and tap Enable daily reminder. It follows your device's clock, including when you travel; the panchang still uses your selected city. If notifications are off, tap Open iOS Settings. Focus and notification settings can delay or silence it. The notification never includes your name, city or times.
Planner, the free trial and purchases
Planner saves dates with their city, private notes and optional reminders. It is an optional one-time purchase, not a subscription.
- Free trial: Planner tab → Try or unlock Planner → Start 30-day trial. It starts only when you tap, with no automatic charge. When it ends, your plans stay readable and deletable and their reminders stay scheduled; unlock Planner to keep creating and editing.
- Unlock: on the same screen, tap Unlock Planner. Apple shows the price in your currency.
- Restore: tap Restore purchases or trial, on the same screen or in Profile → Planner purchase & restore, signed in with the Apple Account that bought it. Restoring brings back access, not plans or notes: those stay on the device where you saved them and in its backups.
- Ask to Buy: a purchase awaiting approval unlocks once it's approved. Refresh purchase status checks again.
- Limits: up to 1,000 saved dates and 50 future plan reminders. Family Sharing isn't available for Planner.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Plan reminders
A plan's reminder shows in the saved city's time zone and stays at that exact moment if you travel. "Reminder needs attention" means iOS hasn't scheduled it: check notification permission, then save the plan again or turn its reminder off. Reminders never include the plan's title, notes or city.
Location and travel
Location is optional. Use current location asks for permission and uses Apple Maps to name your city. Kalpa never tracks you in the background and doesn't change your city when you travel; choose another city when you want its times. You can change location permission in iOS Settings.
Appearance and motion
In Profile, choose System, Light or Dark appearance, turn Animate sky & Moon on or off, or preview a day in the sky. With animation off, the sky still follows the time. Reduce Motion and Low Power Mode also pause motion.
Why a time differs from another almanac
First check that the city and time zone match. Kalpa uses the Lahiri sidereal convention and the Sun's upper limb with standard refraction at a sea-level horizon, and rounds to the nearest minute. Almanacs that use the center of the Sun's disc without refraction can differ by a few minutes, and real weather and terrain change what you see. A weekday before a time means it falls on another local date. The day's last limb may continue past the next sunrise.
No sunrise, sunset, moonrise or moonset
Far north or south, the Sun may not rise or set on some dates, so there is no sunrise-to-sunrise panchang day; choose another place. A missing moonrise or moonset means that event doesn't happen on that calendar date, not that the Moon is absent all day.
Festivals
Kalpa does not include festival dates, fasting decisions or ritual guidance. They depend on each family's tradition and need review by people from that tradition.
Language
Kalpa is in English, with Sanskrit terms in IAST transliteration.
